Wind Generator Plans
Building a VERY small scale wind generator?
I am trying to build a small wind turbine with enough power to light a 5 watt bulb.
Basically, I was planning on just connecting some 3in. fins to an Electric motor from a hobby store (see http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2102828&cp=&sr=1&origkw=motor&kw=motor&parentPage=search ) and then hooking the Electric Motor up to a light bulb – will this work? Are there any issues that I have ignored?

May be a bit faster than you could get with 3 inch fins. You could use gears (the big ones do) but then gearbox friction might keep it from turning at all
To light a 5W bulb, you will need more than an amp from the motor. I suspect the wires inside the motor may not be that big.
An LED might take less amps.
